2012 Jaguar XF Sportbrake 3.0 Diesel VX12 CWN

Jaguar had been an Official Supplier to Team Sky cycling since the team was created in 2010 and played a role in the teams hugely successful first seasons of racing, including the first ever Tour de France victory by a British cycling team. The year 2012 marked a new step for the partnership, with the supply of a fleet of all-new high-performance Jaguar XF Sportbrakes.

The X260 XF Sportbrake was introduced to the world in March 2012 with an on-sale date of October the same year. To support the launch, a number of prototypes were supplied and livered for Team Sky. They were used as support vehicles with custom roofracks to carry the spare bicycles. This vehicle, now with the decals and roofrack removed, is one of them.

VX12 CWN was completed on April 6th 2012, destined for Jaguar Land Rover’s Global Sport fleet. The Team Sky Sportbrakes were first seen on the road during Team Sky’s historic and ultimately victorious campaign to win the Tour de France in June/July 2012.

The team took a total of 47 victories in the season with the most notable being Bradley Wiggins’ overall victory in the Tour de France. Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome also took stage victories in the event, with Froome finishing second to Wiggins in the overall standings. The season began in Australia in January, and ended at October’s Tour of Beijing. As a UCI ProTeam Team Sky were automatically invited and obliged to send a squad to every event in the UCI World Tour.

The XF Sportbrake was the perfect choice sharing as it does excellent safety features and interior refinement with the saloon, but with added headroom for rear passengers and more storage space. The rear seats are a 60:40 split and the car has 550 litres of space with the seats occupied and 1,675 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

After use with Team Sky, the car was returned to Jaguar and placed on the Jaguar Cars Company Vehicles Engineering Fleet, based at Building 523 at Gaydon Test Centre. On December 9th 2013, the car along with sister car VX12 CWO were gifted to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust for preservation with CWO retaining its Team Sky livery and roof rack.

Note:  This car has now had its Sky livery and roof mounted bike rack removed.
